Awareness and safer roads for everyone that uses them.
For Toyota, safety is very important and we want to see that people can travel safely, whether in their cars or also outside of cars. Educating about road safety is important, and it starts from a young age. We want to do motorsport in a safe environment. We want to drive fast, we want to share the passion for the speed, but we do it in a safe environment. Every human life is important and we need to remember that.
Jari-Matti Latvala, TGR-WRT Team Principal
Toyota GAZOO Racing World Rally Team in collaboration with CFAO Mobility Kenya have launched the second year of the #RoadSafety4All campaign with school children in Nairobi ahead of the 2025 Safari Rally Kenya.
TGR-WRT and CFAO started working hand-in-hand in 2024 to increase awareness around road safety and help promote safer road journeys for everyone. As part of this, the team donated 10,000 reflective wristbands to schools across the country to help children be more visible especially when navigating busy roads.
Our Team Principal Jari-Matti Latvala was joined by TGR ambassador and three-time Safari Rally winner Juha Kankkunen alongside CFAO Motors Kenya Managing Director, Arvinder Reel, to help launch the initiative at Lang’ata Road Primary School in Nairobi.
A couple of days later, the TGR-WRT service area in Naivasha welcomed children from the nearby Milimani Primary School, who met with Jari-Matti and our drivers Kalle Rovanperä, Elfyn Evans and Takamoto Katsuta.
For 2025, this initiative continues together with the launch of a road safety mural competition across schools in Kenya.
TGR-WRT Deputy Team Principal and three-time Safari Rally winner Juha Kankkunen was joined by rising FIA World Rally Championship driver Sami Pajari on Saturday 15 March as they visited the Nairobi Children’s Traffic Safety Park, engaging with school children on safe use of roads and helping to paint a mural on canvas.
On Monday 17 March, Kankkunen and CFAO Mobility Managing Director, Arvinder Reel, visited Jogoo Road Primary School where they joined pupils in painting a prominent wall mural on the side of the school building.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), every four minutes a child loses their life on roads around the world, with many more being seriously injured. Children are among the most vulnerable road users, and a disproportionate number of victims globally come from poor backgrounds.
The launch of #RoadSafety4All is just the beginning of a long-term goal for TGR-WRT to help promote safer road journeys, not only in Kenya but in locations around the world where it goes rallying.
